Guest Post from T.H. Meyer

Often times, we write (or live life) with two voices in our head.
One voice belongs to the Critic. This voice says, “Your friends or peers may not like your work? Worse, you know So-n-So will hate it!”
Who do you think you are?”
“You could fail!”
“You’re putting yourself out there, why risk it?”
“You’re sloppy and lack analytical, time management skills.”
“Apologize ahead of time to those one-star readers you know are telepathically hating your words right now!”
The other voice belongs to the Encourager. This voice pushes you out of your comfort zones because you have that one reader in mind you want to help. This voice says, “Give words to lift their spirit.”
Show them what you’ve learned so they don’t have to struggle like you did.”
“Help them see a better way.”
“Brighten their day and give them hope.”
“Provide practical information that’ll make their life easier.”
“Point them in the direction where peace and joy abide.”
We may begin with the Encourager, but it’s the Critic that stops us. It’s the Critic that paralyzes us with insecurity and inaction. And if we proceed with the Critic, we move with such caution we end up writing to the Critic instead for the Encourager. In fact, the Critic wrestles the pen out of our hand and so, we add disclaimers until our whole book is about placating the Critic.
We want the Critic to like us.
They won’t.
We want the Critic to see our good intentions.
They don’t care.
We want the Critic to know we understand.
He’ll only slap at our attempts, laugh in our face with pungent garlic breath, and still hate whatever we’re doing.
When I began writing my debut book about social media strategies, I wrote to help the struggling artist, writer, or entrepreneur take advantage of what’s available at their fingertips. I wanted to provide applicable information to improve their understanding and presence. My desire included helping them get ahead while also remembering where their true hope comes.
But that all changed when the Critic showed up.
Instead, I added disclaimers before every chapter, like:
“Hey, if you don’t like this stuff, I’m so sorry, just skip this chapter, in fact, just skip this whole book. K? So sorry. Hate that you don’t like social media. I know it sucks. It sucks, right? Like big time? I know. So sorry. Social media can be the devil’s spawn. I totally get it. No, really I do. I’m a worm for writing that it can be used for good. So sorry to bother you with this. Oh look, squirrel!”
Yeah, true story.
Thankfully, I stopped doing that. I edited and rewrote. I got back to work and penned my book for the Encourager.
May 31 - June 13
The most important part of this book is the writing under the word “Strategies”. It states: “Discover Powerful Tools of the Trade without Losing Your Soul.” I’m a social media manager who spent years, blogging and feeling like my soul was sucked out by all the platform-talk that I was told to focus on.
Add to that, the Christian publishing industry heavily relies on the number of followers you have before taking a risk on you, to the point, your whole worth as an author, a person can get wrapped up in a number. Sheesh. The pressure to be popular and viral can be defeating.
Also, I taught classes to local small business owners and entrepreneurs on how to maximize their social media presence. Essentially, I encouraged them (as a consumer myself) that clients, consumers, and community can’t find you if they don’t know about you. So this is as much as service to potential clients and community as it is for their business. But I found many business owners were overwhelmed by the deluge of information regarding social media.
That’s where this book comes in. I wrote it to be a help to others, but especially to Christians who feel like their souls die a little more every time they try to tackle social media, platforms, and latest changes in the social media landscape.
MY REVIEW:  This is a informative and very helpful guide book to understanding the basics and a few not so basic of computer lingo. I enjoyed this book because I now understand computer technology better. It is chocked full of how to's in navigating the internet even listing how to get a blog up and running. This is a must have for anyone who has a computer, which in this day and time most people own one.

Change is possible. As women, we are constantly evaluating ourselves. Am I enough? Why can’t I change this certain thing about myself? Should I be doing more?

We long for real, deep, lasting change—but we don’t know how to begin. In Meet the New You, Elisa Pulliam empowers women to take charge of their own life transformation by engaging in a meaningful relationship with God and His Word. Each chapter gives practical and interactive ways to address some of the biggest obstacles that stand in the way of permanent change. Through stories, biblical application, personality assessments, thought-provoking questions,                                                                 and life-coaching principles, Meet the New You helps women:
                                          ·         understand who they are
                                          ·         cultivate a vision for who they want to become
                                          ·         recognize what holds them back
                                          ·         determine the steps necessary to  put new, practical habits into action

It’s time to discover who you really are and how you can live life differently. It’s time to meet the new you!
"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hole of that for which Christ Jesus took ahold of me.  -Philippians 3:12
My Review:

We can make positive changes in our lives regardless of how old we are. Elisa Pulliam gives some great steps and instruction in doing just that. Sometimes just the though of change overwhelms us. Growing in our walk with the Lord requires changes as He works to help us grow more in Him and to be more like Him. This book is literally packed with personal, spiritual and prayerful guidance to help you seek God and what He wants to change in you life and to bring you to a deeper and closer walk with Him.

I did not really care for this book. On rating it would
be a 2. I realize there are others who will enjoy this
The Confessions of Xliterary novel. There is too much description about
everything and the use of a few words bothered me
as well as the seeming acceptance of Augustine and
his concubine's relationship. I'm aware that it was true and they parted ways much later. I'm glad he later came to know the Lord and served the Lord the rest of his life.

The Beautiful Pretender

What happens when a margrave realizes he’s fallen in love with a servant?

The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble-born ladies from around the country to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test these ladies and reveal their true character.

Avelina is only responsible for two things: making sure her deception goes undetected and avoiding being selected as the margrave’s bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

Despite Avelina’s best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can’t deny her own growing feelings. But something else is afoot in the castle. Something sinister that could have far worse—far deadlier—consequences. Will Avelina be able to stop the evil plot? And at what cost?
My Review:
I love fairy tales! I love Melanie's books! This is Book 2 of The Thornbeck Series. She can write a romantic scene like you wouldn't believe. The first kissing scene made me swoon and I had to reread it, lol. The Margrave was charming, Avelina sweet and unselfish. The happily ever after ending left me hoping there is number 3 book in the future.

WOW! Where do I start? This is the first book I have read from author M.B.Tosi and can she write!!! I drank this book up like a horse that had traveled through the desert and found a bubbling brook. She does an amazing job of telling the story through the eyes of a captive white woman and her love for God. It is hard not to give spoilers but I won't. Morning Star is a incredible woman who makes the best of whatever she faces even if she has to fight for what is right. I cried, laughed, mourned and loved as I read as fast as I could to the end. Well Done M.B. Tosi!!

The Crimson Path of HonorIn The Crimson Path of Honor, the Civil War is over, and a violent period known as the Indian Wars is erupting. Ignoring the danger, a feisty young woman from Boston rebels against her tyrannical father’s plans to marry her off to a family friend, and she seizes an opportunity to go west to teach.  On the way to the Oregon Territory, her stagecoach is attacked, and she is captured by a marauding band of Lakota (Sioux) Indians who call the Rocky Mountains home.
Accepting her perilous situation, the young woman courageously confronts the daily hardships inherent in early Native American life. At first treated like an outcast, she eventually adapts to her circumstances and comes to respect the camaraderie of the Indians, even falling in love with her captor. Over time, she begins to challenge her abductor’s traditional views on bloodletting and violence as the path of honor. Torn by her inability to justify her growing feelings for her captor in a culture of violence, she continually wonders why God has abandoned her in such a desolate place

Gina is sweet, down to earth, caring and a survivor. You'll meet Potato Chip, Oscar, Sweets and no I'm not saying anything about them. Read the Book!!!

Hello! My name is Karen and I love to color!

I have always loved to color since I was a child. Then I grew up (some say differently).  Adult coloring that is becoming so popular is wonderful. The coloring book "Amish Quilts" is such a beautiful book to color. Quilt designs of all kinds sends your creativity in to all sorts of color combinations. Coloring is a way for me to relax and de-stress. It is fun and allows you to be an artist on paper.  To the right and to the left are two examples I colored that are in Rachel Good's "Amish Quilts" A great way to express your inner creativity. This is a book of coloring you will want!

About the Book
Amish Quilts Coloring BOOK coverFeeling stressed? Why not relax with an adult coloring book? Rachel J. Good’s Amish Quilts Coloring Book takes you back to a time and place that’s calm. Immerse yourself in a world of peace as you color the 25 different quilts.
Inspired by quilts seen in Amish country, many of these designs are based on traditional patterns, but some have been reimagined or repeated multiple times to create more intricate designs to color. Each quilt is printed on only one side of the page; facing pages contain inspirational Amish proverbs. To make the quilts even more colorful and interesting, sketch fabric designs – plaids, checks, paisleys, flowers, or abstract shapes – into the larger quilt blocks, use pattern stamps, or even collage fabric scraps to the pages. And if the designs inspire you to make quilts of your own, the pages can be used as templates for quilt-making.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

And I thought I didn't learn any Spanish. It is a beautiful day here in Oklahoma. I would love to be able to open the windows but where I work the windows don't open.  Today I'm reviewing "An Amish Market." This contains four Amish novellas. I love these type of books. If I'm not familiar with an author, this gives me something to read and I'll know pretty quick if I like the story. All four of these are a hit. In each of them you will find people like you and me facing the same struggles. Each author is talented and her writings hold your attention.

Amy Clipston's "Love Birds" (don't ya just love that title). Ellie finds work
to help her support her mother and herself as she hopes a certain Amish
man notices her. But she does something that he's not sure he can trust her.
Got your attention? Yay! Read the book!

Kathleen Fuller's "A Bid for Love" (now that title has you wondering huh?) Need butter? Hannah makes it and Ezra buys more than his mamm needs. Hmm! Why? He isn't looking for a wife. A quilt with a hidden meaning comes to surface. Got your attention? Yay! Read the book!

Kelly Irvin's "Sweeter Than Honey" (I love honey especially with peanut butter). What does pickled beets and honey have to do with this book. Will's past makes him hesitant about women, tries to keep his distance but finally sees what he's trying so hard not to but will Isabella wait on him. Got your attention? Yay! Read the book!

Vannetta Chapman's "Love in Store" (hmmm, love don't you just love that word?) Love can come at any age but will Stella step out and embrace it or continue to feel sorry for herself and in the process comes across as grumpy. Oh but maybe there is someone who will break down
that wall? Got your attention? Yay! Read the book!

No Other Will Do

Men are optional. That's the credo Emma Chandler's suffragette aunts preached and why she started a successful women's colony in Harper's Station, Texas. But when an unknown assailant tries repeatedly to drive them out, Emma admits they might need a man after all. A man who can fight--and she knows just the one.

Malachi Shaw finally earned the respect he craved by becoming an explosives expert for the railroad. Yet when Emma's plea arrives, he bolts to Harper's Station to repay the girl who once saved his life. Only she's not a girl any longer. She's a woman with a mind of her own and a smile that makes a man imagine a future he doesn't deserve.

As the danger intensifies, old feelings grow and deepen, but Emma and Mal will need more than love to survive.

Karen Witemeyer's latest book releases this June, that's next month! Mark it down because you will want this book!  I have read several of her books and they are never a disappointment. She has become one of my favorite authors. She has a unique writing talent that shines forth in her books. Pack your bags for a journey to Harper's Station and be prepared to meet some interesting and fun people. Follow Aunt Henry, Aunt Bertie and Emma (the heroine) as you see them be the hands and feet of Christ. Meet Malachi who finally finds a place to call home. A cast of characters you'll come to know, love and want to jump into the pages to be a part of this unique group.
