To save her family from financial ruin, Miss Poppy Garrison accepts an unusual proposition to participate in the New York social season in exchange for her grandmother settling a family loan that has unexpectedly come due. Ill-equipped to handle the intricacies of mingling within the New York Four Hundred, Poppy becomes embroiled in one hilarious fiasco after another, doomed to suffer a grand societal failure instead of being deemed the diamond of the first water her grandmother longs for her to become.

Reginald Blackburn, second son of a duke, has been forced to travel to America to help his cousin, Charles Wynn, Earl of Lonsdale, find an American heiress to wed in order to shore up his family estate that is in desperate need of funds. Reginald himself has no interest in finding an heiress to marry, but when Poppy's grandmother asks him to give etiquette lessons to Poppy, he swiftly discovers he may be in for much more than he bargained for.

MY THOUGHTS:
Oh boy! I get so excited when I know Jen Turano has new book released! Her characters are so quirky, and the story is always enjoyable. She really has her own unique talent for writing books that will have your attention and wanting to read more of her books.
In her new release "Diamond in the Rough", you'll meet Poppy and immediately become her friend. As her grandmother sponsors her through the season of the elite, at times she can be somewhat clumsy. Her grandmother's desire is that she become one of "A diamond of the first water". Otherwise known as "The Four-Hundred. (Research this, its very interesting during the Regency Era).
You'll love Poppy, Reginald (or is he), Murray (coddled my his mother but finds his way to being a man), Viola, her grandmother (a strict woman but just might surprise you, I know I was), her grandfather (who realizes just what is important in life).
Be ready to waltz right into the pages of this book, don your best attire and be prepared to face humor that will have you laughing out loud (I did), boundaries to cross to other social classes, your heart agreeing with your mind of those characters that are meant to be together (and some that surprises you) and take in the beauty surrounding forgiveness, mended relationships and most of all, the love that shows in older, middle and younger sets of couples.
I thoroughly enjoyed "Diamond in the Rough" and anxiously await her next book.

blessings,
Karen
